Who Knew A CPAP Mask Could Help You Sleep?

Even if you think you look like Hannibal Lecter
believe it or not you may discover that you can't
imagine going to bed without your apnea mask!

Jesse Conreaux complained that it was like wearing a vacuum cleaning stuck in reverse.

Kevin Bennett used the excuse, "I have a new girlfriend. I can't wear that thing. Who will she think I am? Jason from Friday the 13th?"

Both Jesse and Kevin are sleep apnea sufferers. Both have been prescribed CPAP machines. And both are required to wear a mask at night to help keep the airway in their throat open so they can sleep without waking up constantly gasping for breath.

Admittedly any CPAP mask takes some getting used to.

And they aren't exactly user friendly.

Yet the anti snoring masks are getting increasingly more comfortable. If you'll but give it enough time you'll probably adjust to sleeping with one. Especially when you notice how much better and more energetic you feel.

Even better CPAP headgear comes in three basic varieties. You can get full face masks, and then nasal or hybrid masks.

When you hear full face think like the oxygen mask you see football players reaching for after running 97 yards with a recovered fumble. The downside of full face masks is some feel they are harder to fit and seal properly.

Nasal CPAP masks are not helpful for mouth breathers unfortunately.

The hybrid tries to split the difference and as such gets rave reviews from some.

Did You Know? You can have your doctor write the prescription to include Mask of Patient's Preference on it. If not and you find a another mask would work better you'll have to traipse over to the doctors office for another prescription.

That said there are some dealing with apnea for whom none of the CPAP face mask options work. Some people just ca not wear a mask - either due to a feeling of claustrophobia or they just don't feel comfortable in one.

Other users develop skin rashes.

But there is usually a style of CPAP mask to help most sleep apnea sufferers. It just takes a commitment to the system and a willingness to experiment. Plus a heavy dose of patience.
