Obstructive Sleep Apnea - How Can I Tell If I Have It?
Know Your Sleep Apnea Symptoms
To hear Jackie Bruen tell it, her husband Gabriel's snoring could wake the dead.
|
"That was the first clue we needed to do something. Sure Gabe snored before. But it started to get louder and louder. It got so bad I had to sleep on the couch some nights and I could still hear him," Jackie said.
Jackie's right. Severe snoring in one indicator of obstructive sleep apnea - the most common type of apnea. You may well be a sufferer of obstructive sleep apnea if you've noticed any of these sleep apnea symptoms:
Loud and heavy snoring every night
Feeling groggy, tired or sleepy during the day for no reason.
|
Waking up with a morning headache
Notice an inability to concentrate
Easily falling asleep while driving, eating, sitting watching TV
You gasp, choke, or stop breathing repeating while sleeping.
But what is sleep apnea exactly?. Basically you stop breathing because of blockages in your airway. That blockage can occur in three areas: the nose, the back of your throat or the lower area of your throat.
Then here's why it pays to know your sleep apnea symptoms. Recent studies have linked sleep apnea, with high blood pressure and subsequent heart problems. In fact it's been reported that sufferers of sleep apnea are up to six times more likely to suffer a heart attack.
