What Type of Sleep Apnea Treatment Is Best For YOU?
How is Sleep Apnea Treated Most Commonly?
Obstructive sleep apnea treatment, the most common form, is unfortunately a bit more complicated than swallowing a magic pill.

Generally there are three different approaches for treating apnea
1) positive airway pressure;
2) a dental appliance,
3) tissue removing surgery
But let's back up a step. Before we look to hard at your sleep apnea treatment options you first have to correctly diagnose that's what you've got, right?
If apnea is suspected, your doctor will schedule you for a sleep study called a "polysomnogram," or "PSG" for short.

After checking in you'll be hooked up with more sensors than Bride of Frankenstein. These sensors will track your brain activity, heart rate, the air flow into your lungs, eye movement and the electrical pulses of your chin muscles, which can be a sign you're going to wake up, if only for a second.
If the sleep study confirms obstructive sleep apnea, treatment most typically involves a device forces air into the airway through a mask placed over mouth and/or nose while you sleep. The equipment is known as a CPAP machine. And it can make a huge difference in your life. Not only does it cut down or cut out your snoring altogether, but it insures you get more quality, uninterrupted sleep. This form of apnea therapy also stabilizes your heart rate and oxygen level.
Did You Know? Not everybody who has sleep apnea snores.
Based on your test results the sleep lab with determine which kind of breathing machine you need. And will figure out the air pressure settings too for optimal sleep apnea treatment.
Let's look at another of the sleep apnea treatments just in case wearing a mask at night isn't for you.
